Unfortunately we got some bad news for you lovers of a proper party, one of the best festivals in all of East Africa, the Kilifi NYE, which has carved out a place as one of the best spaces to highlight the creatives of the region (and is thoroughly lit to boot) has cancelled its 2020 edition due to concerns over the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
The following is a statement from the festival:
“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of this year’s Kilifi New Year Festival due to the uncertainty of COVID restrictions. As an organization dedicated to producing safe, cultural events, we simply cannot predict at this time whether it will be possible for us to host 3000 plus guests over 3 days during the New Year season. As such, we have made the difficult decision, not to hold this year’s event. We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us, and thank you for your patience. For those who have already bought a ticket, we will be in touch personally to explain the refund procedure. For those of you worried about the future of our events, fear not! We will certainly be organizing events at the site as soon as possible. Once we are cleared to begin planning, no matter the size of event, we will let you know what we have up our sleeves to bring you together. We also have some positive announcements coming soon about the evolution of the Festival and Beneath the Baobabs events, with a plan to ensure that you can experience the Baobabs with more impact and greater intention year round. More information to follow…In the meantime, stay safe, keep connected and keep innovating; till we dance again! With Love, The Beneath the Baobabs Team.”
2021 surely can’t come soon enough- this just comes as another reason.
Stay safe out there party people.
